So, we hear that Mad River is coming to Manayunk. Great. That's just what Manayunk needs, another wanna-be-Olde-City nightspot. You know, its funny, we were out at the Brew Pub last night, taking in the Eau-D'Garbage that the BP is well known for on balmy summer nights, and we were looking around. Ok, I'll admit it, we were people-watching. The one major thing I noticed is that either Manayunk is becoming more like Olde City, or otherwise people are just beginning to dress like it. Whatever happened to Manayunk being the chill, summer spot to go when you're not down the shore? I didn't realize that leaopard-print minis on girls and v-neck tight black tees on guys were in-style for a Philly suburb outdoor deck bar. I mean, come on, people!! Oh, and another thing...stop shoving your tongue down your boyfriend's throat in public! That's just gross.
I guess with Mad River coming to Manayunk, maybe people are trying to prepare. I mean, isn't that place the epitome of post-college frat parties? Isn't that the place you "end up'? Isn't that the place where the song list always, always always includes PYT, Journey, and Pour Some Sugar on Me? Maybe that only when I've been there. In any case, perhaps Manayunk is becoming more of the trendy, Olde City-ish locale, although, I didn't think so, especially with this alleged Riverwalk coming soon. My vote is to keep Manayunk like Manayunk should be, chilled out, relaxed, fun and low-key. If you want to go to a club, go to the city. I do have to say this though, the Brew Pub, no matter how gross the garbage smell can get, still has killer nachos and an awesome steak salad that beats any other (especially overpriced Couch Tomato) on Main Street. Its a great summer staple of a place if you want the all around experience...girls in minis, guys with too much gel, home-brewed beer and delicious eats. Hey, and if you're up for the club thing, I suppose you can always check out Mad River, coming this fall to the old Grape Street Philadelphia. Man, that place never should have left Grape Street. What do you guys think?
